Grr! with AM PreK

Grrrrrr! We read about tigers in PreK. First, a nonfiction book with lots of facts. Next, two fiction books: a rhyming one called Oh, No! by Candace Fleming and It's a Tiger! by David LaRochelle, which necessitate lots of screaming when we found the tiger on each page spread. Finally, the kids made their own roaring tiger hand puppets.

JUMP! with PreK and DLP

I never knew there were so many books out there about jumping and frogs until I started working on this lesson ... In PreK and DLP, we read the following:

Then we created jumping frogs; I got the idea and template from this blog.

 

Finally, we danced the Croaky Pokey, courtesy of Ethan Long.

 I may or may not have been dizzy at the end.

Bark, George!

PreK, DLP, and K listened to Bark, George by Jules Feiffer. They got a huge kick out of this story about a dog who doesn't bark ... instead, he meows, quacks, oinks, and moos!

To support their retelling skills, students colored the characters so they could bring them home and share story to their families. (You can click on the link to access and download more copies.)

We also watched some videos involving animal sounds. PreK and DLP helped Old MacDonald figure out what his animals say:

K watched "What Does the Fox Say?" (we have a book version of the song available for checkout!). 

PreK Loves Pete the Cat!

Some days you just really need Pete the Cat to come in and remind you, "It's all good." We've been reading his books in preschool, including one about his four groovy buttons, and one about his white shoes.
